There’s something timeless about a stay at Kuyenda Bushcamp. Nestled beneath a canopy of shady trees near the Manzi River, Kuyenda captures the romantic essence of an authentic safari in Zambia. With just six traditional rondavel chalets, it offers a back-to-nature escape perfect for couples or small groups seeking exclusivity and a genuine bush experience. It is not suitable for children under the age of 12, making it an ideal destination for adults wanting tranquil immersion in the African wilderness. While the camp is not located in a Big 5 region—rhino are not present—it offers an exceptional variety of wildlife encounters, with frequent sightings of elephant, lion, leopard, and buffalo.

A Classic Safari in Zambia with an Intimate Touch

Kuyenda is all about simplicity without compromise. Guests are invited to slow down and absorb the quiet majesty of the surrounding plains. Wildlife passes by the open lounge, providing a front-row seat to nature’s rhythm without needing to leave the comfort of camp. Whether you’re unwinding with a drink or chatting with one of Zambia’s most experienced guides, the feeling of community and care permeates every part of the experience. For those looking to enjoy a peaceful and meaningful safari in Zambia, Kuyenda offers the perfect atmosphere.

Explore on Foot or by Vehicle

A highlight of any stay is the guided walking safaris that set out each morning and afternoon. Led by seasoned experts, these treks bring travellers up close to the natural world in a way that is both safe and unforgettable. The area surrounding Kuyenda is known for its scenic diversity—from open plains to woodland thickets—ensuring that no two walks are ever the same. For those who prefer a different pace, day and night game drives offer a broader exploration of South Luangwa’s wildlife-rich landscape. While not a Big 5 location, the reserve provides thrilling encounters with large mammals and predators alike.

Unmatched Personal Service and Legendary Hospitality

What sets Kuyenda apart is not only the landscape but also the warmth of the team who call it home. The staff’s deep knowledge of the land and commitment to making each guest feel welcome adds a rare and cherished dimension to the experience. Many guests return year after year, drawn by the authentic hospitality and sense of belonging. This connection, combined with the beauty of the surroundings, makes every safari in Zambia feel both familiar and extraordinary.

Spa Treatments at Mfuwe Lodge

While Kuyenda itself does not offer a spa, guests may indulge in luxurious treatments at the award-winning BushSpa at Mfuwe Lodge, available at an additional cost. This serene retreat in the wilderness offers a range of treatments designed to rejuvenate the mind and body. From massages to facials, each therapy is tailored to deliver deep relaxation, using natural ingredients inspired by the local landscape. Transfers to Mfuwe Lodge can be arranged for guests seeking a wellness addition to their safari.

Rooms

Each of Kuyenda’s six chalets is a raised thatched rondavel set on the edge of a grassy plain dotted with palm trees. With sweeping views over the Manzi Riverbed, which is often frequented by large herds of buffalo, the rooms offer a rustic yet comfortable retreat. All feature convertible beds under oversized mosquito nets, ensuring a peaceful night’s sleep surrounded by the sounds of nature.

The en suite bathrooms are uniquely open to the stars, with double vanities and showers that allow guests to connect with the landscape even in quiet moments. Private wooden decks provide panoramic views where animals often meander past. With no more than 12 guests at a time, Kuyenda promises intimacy, personal service, and a front-row seat to the African bush.

Facilities

Kuyenda places the focus on the safari experience, offering guided walking safaris and game drives as its primary activities. Guests can expect personalised service, with experienced guides leading every outing. The camp’s communal lounge area is a welcoming place to relax between excursions, overlooking the plains where wildlife frequently wanders through.

Although there are no spa or pool facilities on-site, Kuyenda provides all the essentials for a comfortable stay in the wild. The camp runs seasonally from June to November, taking full advantage of the dry season when wildlife viewing is at its best.
