Trips to Africa have long been celebrated for their ability to offer an unfiltered glimpse into nature’s wild beauty, and Kenya, in particular, stands out as an exceptional destination. Whether you are craving the vast savannas of East Africa or the historic coastlines along the Indian Ocean, the country presents two very distinct adventures. From the secluded charm of the Tusitiri Dhow in the Lamu Archipelago to the vast plains of Enasoit Camp, these retreats offer a perfect blend of luxury, culture, and adventure.

A Unique African Coastal Experience

For those looking for something truly unique, the Lamu Archipelago, located off Kenya’s northern coast, offers a remarkable escape. The Tusitiri Dhow, a 50-year-old traditional wooden sailing boat, has been meticulously restored to offer guests an exclusive and luxurious experience. From the spacious sun deck to star-lit beds, life on the Tusitiri Dhow is a relaxed affair. Travellers can sail through the stunning turquoise waters, snorkel in pristine coral reefs, or explore the historic streets of Lamu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Onboard, the crew will cater to every need, from preparing fresh meals in the open-air galley to serving sundowners on the beach. For those seeking more adventurous activities, paddleboarding through quiet lagoons, deep-sea fishing, or water-skiing are just a few of the delights awaiting you. With these trips to Africa, you have the opportunity to experience the ancient maritime routes once plied by spice traders.

Discover the Wilderness at Enasoit Camp

While the coast offers a relaxed and cultural experience, Enasoit Camp, nestled at the foothills of Mount Kenya, immerses visitors in the wildlife and wilderness of East Africa. This private wildlife reserve and luxury tented camp provide an intimate and exclusive safari experience. The camp’s blend of comfort and adventure allows you to truly connect with nature, as you wake to the sights and sounds of Kenya’s wildlife in their natural habitat.

Enasoit is ideal for family groups or friends looking for an unforgettable African experience. With tailor-made safari excursions, guests can observe the Big Five in their natural environment, and enjoy evenings by the campfire, sharing stories of the day’s adventures. Offering both privacy and luxury, Enasoit Camp is another reason why trips to Africa are unforgettable.

The Rich History of Lamu and Its Cultural Significance

Lamu, the oldest living town in East Africa, offers more than just beautiful beaches and coastal retreats. Steeped in history, this ancient town has been a melting pot of cultures for over a thousand years. Walking through the narrow streets, you can witness the rich Swahili heritage that has been influenced by centuries of trade between Africa, the Middle East, and India. It’s here where modern life merges seamlessly with the old world, and the island’s character is visible in its architecture, customs, and rhythms of life.

While exploring Lamu Town and the surrounding areas, you can experience traditional dhow sailing, shop at bustling markets, or visit the sacred ruins of Takwa. This blend of history and tranquillity makes a trip to the Lamu Archipelago an enriching experience for those seeking both adventure and cultural discovery.

Planning Your Dream African Getaway

Trips to Africa don’t always mean roughing it in the wilderness. For those seeking both adventure and luxury, combining the Tusitiri Dhow and Enasoit Camp offers the best of both worlds. Whether you’re enjoying a quiet sunset over the Indian Ocean or watching herds of elephants roam across the savanna, Kenya’s diverse landscapes provide an endless source of wonder.

Both Tusitiri Dhow and Enasoit Camp are available for exclusive hire, making them perfect for a private retreat with family or friends. The adventures, culture, and luxury offered at these unique locations embody the spirit of Africa, providing a one-of-a-kind experience that will leave you with memories to treasure.

Activities to Enhance Your African Journey

While on Tusitiri Dhow, guests can take part in a variety of water-based activities, including snorkelling, deep-sea fishing, and paddleboarding. On land, there are opportunities to explore the narrow streets of Lamu Town, enjoy beach picnics, or simply relax with a good book on the dhow’s sun deck. At Enasoit Camp, safari drives offer a front-row seat to the wildlife, with the chance to spot lions, elephants, and more.

For those looking to extend their adventure, additional activities such as scuba diving or cultural excursions to Takwa Ruins can be arranged in advance. Whether you want action-packed days or quiet relaxation, trips to Africa offer a balance that suits every type of traveller.

Rooms

Life on-board is relaxed and centered on Tusitiri’s broad deck. Sumptuous cushioned seating areas are set up on both sides of the deck by day, and at night, brass lanterns light up the deck and comfortable white linen bedrolls are set up and the day cushions are removed. On Tusitiri, all the beds are star-beds!

**All guests sleep in luxury bedrolls (mattresses and white linen, duvets and pillows) on Tusitiri’s wide deck, under the stars. These can be arranged as double or single beds. The large day cushions are arranged around the bedrolls to act as a partition and provide some privacy.
