Zambia, a landlocked nation in southern Africa, is a treasure trove of natural splendour and cultural riches. At its heart lies the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls, known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya, or “Smoke That Thunders.” This breathtaking waterfall plunges 108 meters into the Batoka Gorge, creating a mesmerizing display of power and beauty.

Beyond the falls, Zambia’s diverse national parks and safari areas beckon adventurers. South Luangwa National Park offers thrilling walking safaris amid abundant wildlife. At the same time, Kafue National Park, one of Africa’s largest game reserves, provides an opportunity to spot elephants, giraffes, zebras, and a myriad of other magnificent creatures in their natural habitats.

Zambia’s allure extends beyond its natural wonders. Its rich cultural tapestry, woven by generations of diverse ethnic groups, invites visitors to explore vibrant traditions and customs. From colourful local markets brimming with handcrafted treasures to remnants of colonial history that have shaped the present, Zambia offers a captivating journey through its heritage.

Whether you seek adventure in the wilderness, a chance to marvel at nature’s grandeur, or an immersion in age-old customs, Zambia promises an unforgettable experience. Lose yourself in its rugged terrain, diverse wildlife, and cultural tapestry, and discover the true essence of this unique African gem.

What is the weather like?

Zambia experiences a predominantly sub-tropical climate characterized by three distinct seasons: a hot and dry season (mid-August to mid-November), a wet rainy season (mid-November to April) and a cool dry season (May to mid-August). Rainfall is strongly influenced by the movement of the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone as well as the El Niño/Southern Oscillation phenomenon. It varies from an annual average of 600 mm in the lower south up to 1,300 mm in the upper north of the country. The climate is tropical by location near the equator—the annual rainfall in Zambia averages between 700 mm in the south and 1,400 mm in the north. The hot months are very dry, receiving almost no rainfall between May and August. The wet season (September-April) rainfall is controlled by the passage of the tropical rain belt which oscillates between the northern and southern tropics over a year, bringing rain between October and April of 150‐300 mm per month.
